What are the effects of COVID-19 on heart health?
Post-COVID - What effects does COVID-19 have on heart health?
A selected team of physicians from Heidelberg University Hospital, together with medneo's Head of Cardiac Imaging PD Dr. med. Henning Steen, are addressing this heart-related and highly topical question in a large-scale heart study. PD Dr. med. Henning Steen, Head of Cardiac Imaging at medneo: "The data on the effects of COVID-19 infection on heart health is still very limited. This is exactly where we started and scanned approximately 16 post-COVID study participants* daily over a 12-day period."
The Post-COVID Heart Study
A total of 200 participants were examined using non-contrast cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and 3D electrocardiography (Cardisio). The goal of the study is to use the data collected to better understand the late and long-term effects of COVID-19 infection on cardiac health.
medneo's high-end MRI trailer rolls onto the premises of Heidelberg University Hospital on time
medneo is providing a state-of-the-art mobile MRI trailer for the study. "Within three weeks, the initiative and study cooperation between Heidelberg University Hospital, Cardisio, Philips and medneo took shape. All parties involved worked at full speed to be able to meet the study start date," explains Nicolas Weber, CEO of medneo. Despite the short timeline, medneo's mobile trailer, including specialist staff and technical equipment, drove onto the hospital premises on time: the cardiac study could begin. And this was not least due to the very good cooperation of the involved cooperation partners.
medneo is prepared for further projects of this kind - full-heartedly ahead!
